Becoming a Dutch Citizen

There are two ways to become a Dutch citizen: through naturalization or by option.

By clicking the button at the bottom of this text, you can check whether you are eligible to apply for Dutch citizenship. You can also do this for your partner and your child(ren), if necessary.

To do this, you must uploadyour ID and other official documents. Do we also need to determine whether your partner and/or child(ren) are eligible for Dutch citizenship? If so, you mustalsouploadtheir documents.

After reviewing your information and documents, you will receive a letter. This letter will state whether you (and, if applicable, your partner and/or children) are eligible to become Dutch citizens. We will also explain in the letter how the process will proceed.

Submit Online Applications Using DigiD

Are you having trouble filling out the online form? If so, you can call the Civil Affairs Team at 140168 on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. 

You are applying to become a Dutch citizen. The King will decide on your application. You must meet the integration requirement. The conditions are listed on the IND website.

Costs

  • Naturalization application for 1 person: €1,139.00
  • Naturalization application for you and your partner: €1,454.00
  • Naturalization of a child under 18 years of age: €168.00 (per child)

For refugees and stateless persons, the costs are:

  • Application by a stateless person or asylum permit holder: €847.00
  • Application by a stateless person or asylum permit holder together with a partner : €1,163.00
  • Naturalization of a child under 18 years of age: €168.00 (per child)

You declare your intention to become a Dutch citizen by submitting a declaration of intent. The mayor will decide on your application. Therequirementsare listed on the IND’s website.

Costs

  • Option Request for 1 Person: €241.00
  • Option request with partner: €412.00
  • Additional ticket for a child under 18: €27.00 (per child)

  • When you submit a naturalization application, the municipality prepares a recommendation and sends it, along with your documents, to the IND. The naturalization process at the IND takes about 1 year.
  • When you submit an application for naturalization, the municipality will determine whether you meet all the requirements to become a Dutch citizen. The naturalization process takes approximately 13 weeks.
