Natural Gas-Free Living by 2050

Most residents of Moerdijk still use natural gas for cooking and heating their homes. That is set to change over the next thirty years. The Climate Agreement stipulates that neighborhoods and communities will be disconnected from the natural gas grid—not all at once, but gradually and in phases, through a neighborhood-focused approach. Municipalities have been given the lead role in this approach. To that end, they were required to adopt a Heat Transition Vision by the end of 2021. This includes Moerdijk as well.

Heating and Cooking Without Gas

So by 2050, we’ll have to phase out natural gas. That means cooking will be done with electricity. It also means better insulation, especially for older homes. And ultimately, it means a different way of heating our homes.
