Bastion Groningen
Bastion Groningen is part of the fortifications of Willemstad. There are seven bastions in total, and Bastion Groningen is one of them.
The goal of the project is to make Bastion Groningen and the surrounding area more livable and engaging. Bastion Groningen is part of Willemstad’s fortifications. Currently, the bastion offers visitors too little to experience. The Vision for the Fortifications states that the municipality intends to further develop and strengthen the fortifications. Therefore, in consultation with the residents of Willemstad, Bastion Groningen has been designated as a location requiring development to keep visitors there longer. In addition, the feasibility of a connection between the fortification and the Oostdijk, along the Oostbeer, is being explored.
