Registry Office

The council has appointed a clerk to assist the council, the committees established by the council, and the presiding board in carrying out their duties.

The clerk assists the council in its representative, policy-making, and oversight functions. The clerk attends council meetings and co-signs documents issued by the council (such as council resolutions). The clerk also provides support to the council, the council caucuses, and individual council members, including in the drafting of motions, member-initiated proposals, and/or amendments. The clerk is assisted in these tasks by the staff of the clerk’s office.

The City Council Office serves as the secretariat for the City Council, the council committees, and the presiding board, providing both logistical and advisory support.

Facilitating council and committee meetings is also an important function of the City Clerk’s Office. This includes, among other things, drafting agendas, publishing council documents and other information, forwarding questions to city staff, ensuring that minutes are taken at council and committee meetings, and handling council communications. This involves informing and engaging residents and other stakeholders about the council’s activities and the decisions it makes.
