Moerdijk Camp

At the port in Moerdijk, on the site where the Ballegooy company's warehouses now stand, an Aussenkommando from the Vught concentration camp was stationed during World War II.

Between March 26, 1943, and the end of February 1944, the old ship barracks on the Moerdijkse Haven quay were used as an Aussenkommando. Approximately 500 Jews were housed in these ship barracks. They arrived at the barracks on foot from the Lage Zwaluwe train station. The Jewish people were put to work digging tank traps in South Holland and the western corner of North Brabant. Political prisoners were also housed in this camp in Moerdijk. The camp was set on fire during the liberation of Moerdijk on November 9, 1944. Most continued to work in the camp until a few days before their transport to Camp Westerbork.
