Solar Panels for a Historic Landmark or Protected Cityscape in Willemstad

More and more people are installing solar panels. In many cases, this can be done without a permit. However, special rules apply to the installation of solar panels on historic monuments or on buildings within Willemstad’s protected cityscape. In most cases, an environmental permit is required. To quickly determine whether an environmental permit can be granted, a solar panel policy has been established.

This solar panel policy specifies locations where solar panels are or are not permitted and, if permitted, the criteria that apply. This policy applies to all properties within the Willemstad protected cityscape and all national and municipal monuments in the municipality.

The fortress is divided into zones, and criteria have been established for installing solar panels in each zone and on historic buildings. Some buildings are excluded, which means solar panels may not be installed on them. You can request the criteria for your address viainfo@moerdijk.nl. Please include the address in question in your email. You will then be sent the area-specific criteria. You can then assess—either on your own or together with your architectural advisor—whether your construction plan is likely to be approved by the Visual Environmental Quality Committee.
