Dog Waste Collection and Off-Leash Areas
Dog waste is one of the biggest nuisances in the Netherlands—and in Moerdijk, too! That’s why we’ve worked together to establish a few rules.
What does this mean for you as a dog owner?
Cleanup Requirement and Leash Requirement
- Dog waste must be picked up everywhere, both inside and outside built-up areas.
- Your dog must be on a leash everywhere within built-up areas, except in designated off-leash areas. The fine for letting your dog run free in areas where it is not permitted is 110 euros.
- You can pick up dog waste using special waste bags available at pet stores. Of course, you may also use your own materials, such as sandwich bags.
- You can dispose of dog waste in the designated orange trash cans. If necessary, you can also use the regular trash cans. Of course, you may also throw dog waste in the trash can at home. It can be disposed of with the general waste.
- The fine for failing to clean up after your dog is 170 euros.
Restricted Areas
- Dogs are not allowed in playgrounds or open schoolyards. Even dogs on a leash are prohibited in these areas. The fine for this violation is 170 euros.
- Areas marked with "No Dogs Allowed" signs.
Off-leash areas
- These areas are located within the built-up area. Your dog is allowed to run free here.
- A cleanup requirement also applies within these areas.
- These areas are marked with a special sign that reads “off-leash area.”
