History and Context
Ever since plans for the Klundert wind farm were first announced, the Klundert City Roundtable has been in discussions with various stakeholders. Together, they are exploring how the benefits of wind energy for residents can be structured so that all households in Klundert can benefit from them.
In 2024, this process gained momentum. Thanks to constructive discussions and a productive collaboration between the Moerdijk Port Authority, Vattenfall, the Municipality of Moerdijk, the Moerdijk Energy Transition Foundation (STEM), and the Klundert City Council, clear plans were drawn up for all residents of Klundert.
It’s wonderful that so many residents are now volunteering their time to carry out these plans. This truly makes it a local success story, created for and by the residents of Klundert. In the coming weeks, we’ll be taking the next steps together. Anyone who wants to share their ideas or get involved is more than welcome!
Collaborating Parties
The Klundert Residents’ New Energy Project Group is part of the Klundert City Roundtable. Residents join the project through this roundtable. In addition, other volunteers from Klundert also participate in the project group. Together, we determine how to approach the project, within the framework we established in advance with all collaborating parties.
The municipality supports residents in making their homes more energy-efficient, including through subsidies. In addition, the municipality of Moerdijk is working together with the residents of Klundert to plan and implement the energy solutions of tomorrow. Thanks to an advance payment from the municipality of Moerdijk on the revenue from the wind turbines, the energy-saving vouchers can already be distributed.
The energy-saving vouchers are funded by the revenue generated by seven wind turbines at the Moerdijk Wind Farm. The Moerdijk Wind Farm was developed by Vattenfall in consultation with the local community. Vattenfall is working toward a future in which we are less dependent on fossil fuels. Through the energy-saving vouchers, the Moerdijk Wind Farm contributes to this transition toward sustainability in various ways.
The Moerdijk Port Authority is supporting this project through its vitality program. The financial contribution from the port authority is channeled through the Klundert City Council.
STEM manages the revenue from the wind turbines and is responsible for issuing the energy-saving bond. The foundation assesses whether plans for the use of wind energy funds align with the investment framework: the agreements and rules that determine how the funds may be spent. Based on this assessment, STEM makes decisions regarding expenditures and available funds.
Energiek Moerdijk is an independent organization that offers advice on energy conservation and making your home more sustainable. The organization is run by, for, and of the residents of the municipality of Moerdijk. Many of Energiek Moerdijk’s services, such as an energy scan or a leak check, are available free of charge to Moerdijk residents.
Woonkwartier is the housing authority for rental properties in Klundert. They actively participate in various consultations to ensure that tenants’ interests are properly taken into account.
