Other places of residence

Heijningen, Helwijk, Klundert, Moerdijk, and Zevenbergen are also becoming greener. That’s because greener towns and cities are better equipped to handle extreme weather, such as heavy downpours or heat waves. The residents themselves, together with the municipality, decide where the green spaces will be located. Want to get started yourself? Help is also available for people who want to make their own gardens greener.

More greenery isn’t just beautiful—it’s also very important. A green community experiences less flooding. Trees and plants help cool the air when it’s hot. Greenery retains water, which is important when it doesn’t rain for a long time. And let’s not forget: greenery provides a habitat for insects, such as bees and butterflies. And they are indispensable for pollinating all kinds of plants that provide us with food, such as fruit, certain vegetables, and even coffee, for example.

The Village of Moerdijk

On November 26, 2024, the kickoff meeting for “Groener Moerdijk” took place. Burobol, which is overseeing the greening plans in collaboration with the municipality of Moerdijk, explained the objectives and the various possibilities for the village. During a workshop on February 18, 2025, the greening plan for the village of Moerdijk will be further developed. This will result in a final greening plan with accompanying actions later this year.

The plans are based on the 3-30-300 principle: everyone should be able to see at least 3 trees from their home. At least 30% of the land in every neighborhood should be covered by tree canopy (which helps keep the neighborhood cooler). And there should be a small park within 300 meters of your home—about a 5-minute walk.

Heijningen and Klundert

On January 23, the greening initiative for Heijningen kicked off with a presentation to the village council. On February 3, the project officially launched with a workshop in Klundert.

Helwijk and Zevenbergen

Helwijk and Zevenbergen will also have greening plans. Anyone who would like to contribute ideas about bringing more green spaces to their own village or town is welcome to do so. We’ll let you know once the schedule is finalized. To stay informed, keep an eye on the city or village council’s calendar, the local media, this website, or the municipality’s social media channels.
