Mayor Closes Business Premises in Klundert

Mayor Moerkerke will close a commercial property on Nijverheidsstraat in Klundert effective March 20, 2026, due to the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine.

In Papendrecht, on the night of March 19–20, 2026, the Zeeland-West-Brabant Seaport Police discovered a van containing hundreds of kilograms of cocaine and possibly a firearm. Further investigation led to the warehouse in Klundert.

Mayor Aart-Jan Moerkerke decided to close the building that very same day. “I am once again shocked by this discovery. It shows just how persistent drug crime is, but also that our firm approach is working. Thanks to the efforts of the police, law enforcement officers, customs, and other security partners, we are taking more and more drugs off the streets. That is important for safety in our towns and cities and for the trust of our residents.”

Mainport Program

The Mainport Program for Seaports in Zeeland–West Brabant makes our seaports resilient against criminal activities that undermine society and takes action against criminals, ensuring that it is safe to work and do business here. It is a joint effort involving the municipalities of Vlissingen, Borsele, Terneuzen, and Moerdijk; the Police; the Public Prosecutor’s Office; Customs; the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee; the Tax and Customs Administration; and the port authorities North Sea Port and Port of Moerdijk. Together with business owners, we ensure that criminals have no opportunity to smuggle drugs, for example. We do this by improving port security and empowering the people who work there. At the same time, we are committed to detecting criminal activities, seizing drugs, and punishing offenders.
