Evaluation of (Temporary) Traffic Measures on Neerhofstraat and Stationsstraat

The municipality has evaluated the temporary traffic measures implemented on Neerhofstraat and Stationsstraat. These measures were put in place due to heavy traffic, cut-through traffic, and the negative impact these had on the quality of life in both streets. The results were shared and the next steps were explained during a residents’ meeting on April 23.

Objectives of the Temporary Traffic Measure

With this pilot program, the municipality sought to improve traffic flow, reduce cut-through traffic, and create a more pleasant living environment on Neerhofstraat and Stationsstraat.

Implementation of the measure

The temporary measure began on January 5, 2026, with the installation of temporary signage and barriers. From January through March 2026, traffic surveys were conducted and the situation was closely monitored. On April 5, 2026, the pilot officially concluded. The measures have remained in place because the municipality has received mostly positive feedback and the measurements show that the measures are effective.

Results and Measurement Data

During the meeting, the results of the traffic surveys were discussed:

  • Baseline Measurement 2025: This measurement showed that there was heavy traffic on Neerhofstraat and Stationsstraat. This confirmed the concerns that residents had previously expressed.
  • Measurements taken during the pilot (2026):Traffic has clearly decreased on some routes. In particular, cut-through traffic has decreased, and traffic is now more evenly distributed throughout the area.
  • Police Recommendation:The draft traffic regulation was submitted to the police, who responded positively to it.

The measurement results show that the temporary traffic measure had an impact on traffic behavior.

Follow-up and Decision-Making

Based on the results, the municipality has decided to permanently implement the traffic measures. A traffic resolution will be issued for this purpose. This resolution must be finalized no later than July 5, 2026. Following its publication, there will be a six-week period during which objections may be filed.
