The Municipality of Moerdijk Joins the Adult Sports & Culture Fund

Starting in February 2026, the Municipality of Moerdijk will join the Adult Sports & Culture Fund for a trial period of nearly two years. The fund makes sports and culture accessible to residents who are struggling to make ends meet. Participating in sports or engaging in creative hobbies such as painting, theater, or visual arts has a positive effect on health.

Positive Effect on Health

Figures from Buurtatlas show that approximately 13.5% (Buurtatlas, 2024) of adults in the municipality of Moerdijk have trouble making ends meet. These are residents who would also like to participate in sports or cultural activities with others.

Activities that have a positive impact on residents’ physical and mental health. “But they also offer the prospect of a better future. In short: a group that wants to be part of the Moerdijk community but cannot do so easily on their own. The Moerdijk Adult Sports & Culture Fund gives these residents the opportunity to participate in sports and culture in an accessible way,” explains Alderman Bennie Blom. A similar approach is already working successfully for young people through the Moerdijk Youth Sports & Culture Fund.

Applications to the Adult Fund are submitted by an intermediary who is active within the municipality. Examples include a member of the social services team, a social worker, or a community sports or cultural coach. Intermediaries can be found on the Adult Fund for Sports & Culture website.

During the trial period from February 2026 through December 31, 2027, we will track, among other things, the number of applications and certain details such as age group, place of residence, and the activity for which an application is submitted. We will also assess whether the budget is sufficient. After two years, we will determine whether to continue this program starting in 2028 and in what form.
