Municipality Closes Recreational Facility After Drug Lab Is Discovered

The mayor of the municipality of Moerdijk has decided to close a mobile home at the Resort WaterWeelde vacation park in Moerdijk for two months. During a police investigation, large quantities of chemicals, raw materials, and equipment used for the production of hard drugs were found in and around the mobile home.

Closure Pursuant to the Opium Act

The mobile home and the accompanying lot will be closed for a period of two months, effective July 8, 2026. The closure will last through September 7, 2026. This measure was taken pursuant to Article 13b of the Opium Act, known as the “Damocles Policy.”

Protection of Public Order and Safety

With this closure, the municipality aims to restore public order, remove the location from the drug trade, and prevent a recurrence. Furthermore, the chemicals and production equipment found there pose a significant risk to the safety of nearby residents. The substances used are flammable and explosive and can pose serious risks to the surrounding area.
