380 kV High-Voltage Transmission Line Geertruidenberg – Krimpen aan den IJssel or Crayestein

The national power grid must transmit an ever-increasing amount of (renewably generated) electricity. To ensure a reliable electricity supply in the future, it is necessary to expand the power grid in various locations throughout the Netherlands. For this reason, an additional high-voltage transmission line will be built between Geertruidenberg and either Krimpen aan den IJssel or Crayestein.

For example, grid operator TenneT and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy want to prevent the current high-voltage transmission line from Krimpen aan den IJssel to Geertruidenberg from becoming overloaded around 2030. This will also help meet the growing demand for electricity.

The project consists of a new 380 kV high-voltage transmission line between Geertruidenberg and Krimpen aan den IJssel or Crayestein. It also includes the expansion of the high-voltage substations in these locations so that the new transmission line can be connected to them. The new transmission line cannot be combined with the existing high-voltage transmission line.

At this stage of the project, only a search area has been identified. Within this search area, options for the route of the new high-voltage transmission line are being explored. You can view this search area on the TenneT website: www.tennet.eu/geertruidenberg-krimpen-crayestein. At a later stage in the project, a decision will be made regarding the route’s final location and whether it will connect to the high-voltage substation in Krimpen aan den IJssel or in Crayestein. TenneT aims to have the new connection completed by 2030. TenneT hopes to begin construction in 2027.

This procedure is coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. Among other things, the ministry ensures that the permit applications are made available for public review simultaneously and that there are sufficient opportunities for stakeholders to provide input. Decision-making also takes place through the ministry.

Drop-in Sessions

The process for this project is now getting underway. From Friday, January 13, through Thursday, February 23, 2023, the Notice of Intent and the Participation Plan for this project will be available for public review. The Notice of Intent explains the project and the process. The Participation Plan describes how the local community will be involved in the project. There are several ways to ask questions or provide feedback on these documents. One way to gather information and ask questions is to attend one of the walk-in sessions. These will take place on:

  • Tuesday, January 24, at Het Carillon, Raadhuisplein 1, Nieuw-Lekkerland
  • Thursday, January 26, at MFC De Ankerkuil, Steenweg 48, Moerdijk
  • Thursday, February 2, at De Parel, 9 Talmastraat, Hardinxveld-Giessendam
  • Tuesday, February 7, at the Lekkerkerk Community Center, Raadhuisplein 5, Lekkerkerk
  • Thursday, February 9, at Boelaars Zalencentrum, Keizersdijk 4, Raamsdonksveer

A virtual information session will also be held on February 14.
