Moerdijk Responds to Plans for New Offshore Wind Energy Landfall Sites

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) has investigated which routes and locations are promising for bringing energy from future offshore wind farms ashore. Nationwide, there are five promising options under consideration, and Moerdijk is one of them. From Friday, May 22, through Thursday, July 2, 2026, local residents, stakeholders, and interested parties will have the opportunity to submit comments. The municipality of Moerdijk submitted its response to the national government on June 23.

In North Brabant, the Offshore Wind Landfall Connections Program (VAWOZ) has examined the options for bringing offshore wind energy ashore at Moerdijk. This involves assessing the relationship with other projects, technical studies, recommendations from the region, and feedback from the public participation process. Based on this analysis, the preferred alternatives for this region have been identified. These are outlined in the draft program:
. The selected route for the power cable runs from the North Sea through the Voordelta, the Haringvliet, and the Hollandsch Diep. The cable comes ashore in the Moerdijk port area. From there, the cable runs underground to a converter station (a converter station converts direct current from offshore wind farms into alternating current for the high-voltage grid) and then connects to the future Port of Moerdijk (POM) high-voltage substation.

Response from Moerdijk

Large-scale energy projects have an impact on our environment, businesses, and residents. That is why the municipality of Moerdijk is closely monitoring these projects. We take action when necessary. In this way, we ensure that the interests of Moerdijk and all its residents are properly taken into account in the plans of the national government and other parties. View our response.

Want to respond yourself?

You can share your opinion on the energy projects currently under consideration in Moerdijk at various times. The municipality encourages you to do so. The deadline for submitting comments on the plans for the VAWOZ program is July 2. Would you like to submit a response (written opinion) but still have questions about the project? Then come to the walk-in meeting on June 30 and submit a “pro forma written opinion” beforehand, so that your response is received well before July 2. This notice explains how that works.
