A potentially larger flare may be visible at Shell Moerdijk

Maintenance work will be taking place at Shell’s chemical complex in Moerdijk over the next few days. As a result, a larger flare may be temporarily visible starting Sunday morning (Monday), May 10. This is expected to last until Wednesday, May 13, or Thursday, May 14. During this work, the flare may be more visible than usual. Shell states that it is doing everything possible to minimize any disruption to the surrounding area. According to Shell, no soot is released during these emissions.

Flaring is part of the facility's regular safety system. The parties involved have been informed of this.

More information about flaring is available on Shell’s website. This website also includes a link to the “flaring brochure,” which contains answers to frequently asked questions.
