Route options announced for new 380 kV high-voltage transmission line
To prevent the power grid from becoming overloaded, an additional high-voltage transmission line will be built between Geertruidenberg and either Krimpen aan den IJssel or Crayestein (near Dordrecht). The routes that will be examined in more detail have now been identified. Two of the routes run through the municipality of Moerdijk.
The exploratory phase of the “380 kV Geertruidenberg–Krimpen aan den IJssel or Crayestein High-Voltage Transmission Line” project has reached a new milestone. Following the announcement of the initial plans in January 2023 and the draft study plan in May 2023, the final study plan has now been completed. This study plan, the Scope and Level of Detail Memorandum (NRD), was developed based on 699 comments submitted on the draft NRD and on advice from the relevant government agencies and the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee. You can find the NRD on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.
The project team has now responded to all 699 comments that were submitted, and these responses can be found in the Response Memorandum. More information is available on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

In the coming months, studies will be conducted on, among other things, the environmental impacts, costs, feasibility, and long-term viability of the ten possible routes. The results of these studies will be incorporated into an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and an Integrated Impact Analysis (IIA). Based on these findings, the Minister for Climate and Energy, together with the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, will select the route. This decision is expected to be made sometime in 2025.
