TenneT Begins Construction of 35 High-Voltage Towers Between Standdaarbuiten and Zevenbergschen Hoek
TenneT is working on a new high-voltage transmission line between Rilland and Tilburg. In the municipality of Moerdijk, work will begin in March on the construction of 35 high-voltage transmission towers between Standdaarbuiten and Zevenbergschen Hoek. This transmission line will expand the overloaded power grid and ensure that the power supply remains reliable in the future.
In the week of March 9, 2026, contractor Strukton will begin setting up access roads and work sites between Exit 25 of the A17 (Zevenbergen) and the Sluissedijk in Standdaarbuiten. Work will then begin on constructing the foundations for 16 high-voltage transmission towers. The work is expected to last until the end of June. Strukton will first work southward from Zevenbergen to the Noordhoek interchange. After that, they will work northward from Standdaarbuiten to the Noordhoek interchange.
Contractor BAM is expected to begin setting up access roads and work sites between the Dikkendijk in Zevenbergen and the Landekensdijk in Zevenbergschen Hoek in late March or early April. Work will then begin on constructing the foundations for 19 high-voltage transmission towers between Zevenbergen and Zevenbergschen Hoek. This work is expected to last until mid-July. Following the work by Strukton and BAM, contractors SPIE and Hanab SELT will install the high-voltage transmission towers. This is likely to begin in September 2026.
Construction Traffic and Temporary Road Closures
Sand, road plates, and equipment will be transported to and from the construction sites for the construction of access roads and work areas. A pile-driving rig will be delivered to and removed from each work area once. Construction traffic will travel from the A17 via Langeweg Noord and Groeneweg along fixed routes to the construction sites. To construct access ramps to the work roads, a section of Langeweg Noord will be closed to other traffic for two days at a time on several occasions. A temporary lower speed limit will be in effect on Langeweg Noord and Groeneweg.
With a project of this scale, temporary disruptions are unavoidable. TenneT, Strukton, and BAM are doing everything they can to minimize the inconvenience. Safety is always the top priority—for local residents, road users, and the people working on the project. TenneT keeps residents informed about the construction work via theBouwApp.
More Capacity Needed for Electricity Transmission
Demand for electricity is growing rapidly. We’re driving more electric vehicles, using heat pumps and air conditioners, and businesses are switching from gas to electricity. At the same time, we’re generating more and more renewable energy with solar panels and wind turbines. That electricity must be transmitted via the high-voltage grid. In many places, that grid is already at capacity.
The new high-voltage transmission line between Rilland and Tilburg is therefore urgently needed. This line will enable large amounts of electricity to be transmitted from Zeeland to Brabant and the rest of the Netherlands. This will ensure that the power grid remains stable and reliable, both now and in the future.
