Major Maintenance on the Blades at Standdaarbuiten

Our goal is to create a safe and climate-resilient living environment for residents. In addition to the maintenance tasks identified through inspections, the project is also exploring opportunities related to climate change and heat stress.

What's coming up?

Maintenance tasks have been identified across three disciplines based on inspections:

  • Green: Addressing the flooding in the central green zone. In doing so, explore options for a greener design.
  • Roads: The pavement has reached the end of its service life. The road and sidewalks will be made safe and accessible to everyone.
  • Sewer System: The sewer system has reached the end of its useful life. Stormwater will be disconnected from the existing combined sewer system. At the same time, the old sewer pipe from the combined sewer system will be replaced with a separate system for stormwater and wastewater. The property connections will be replaced up to the property line, and the goal is to disconnect as many homes as possible.

Where is this location?

What is the latest update?

Starting Wednesday, January 7, contractor Den Ouden will begin work in De Wieken on behalf of the municipality of Moerdijk. Work will begin with Phase 1, and we will proceed in 10 phases. We expect the work to continue until the construction industry’s summer break.

Disconnect

In addition to the new storm sewer, we are also installing a sanitary sewer. This will help prevent flooding in your yard and on the street during heavy rainstorms.

You can contribute to this improvement by having the downspout at the front of your home connected to the new system. The rainwater that falls on your roof will then flow directly into the ditches via the new sewer system.

Municipal land extends up to the property line, usually where the front yard ends and the sidewalk begins. If you participate in the disconnection program, the municipality will ensure that a disconnection fitting is installed for your home on the new, clean sewer line. This fitting will also extend approximately 50 cm into your yard from the curb. The connection from your downspout to this disconnection fitting runs under your own front yard. You must make this connection yourself or have it done. You can also choose to have the disconnection piece installed now and make the connection to your downspout at a later time. The disconnection piece will already be in place by then.

We are doing our best to minimize any inconvenience. However, we ask that you keep the following in mind:

  • We are open on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The construction work may cause noise disturbances
  • The work area is cordoned off with fences for safety reasons
  • Properties within the construction zone are accessible only via pedestrian and bicycle walkways or via a detour for motorized traffic.

  • Textual explanation:
    • A ditch will be dug in the green belt near Wieken 34. Rainwater will be collected in this ditch;
    • Near Wieken 6, a raised plateau will be installed as a traffic-calming measure;
    • The roadway will be narrowed to 4.80 meters throughout;
    • The sidewalks will be 1.80 meters wide everywhere;
    • Near Wieken 8, 9 new (green) parking spaces are being constructed;
    • The trails in the park are being renovated;
    • The playing field will be raised with soil. Ditches will be dug along the perimeter of the playing field to drain water;
    • A stormwater collection system will be installed between Korenhoek 7 and Wieken 104;
    • Between Korenhoek 7 and Wieken 104, the roadway will be removed;
    • At Korenhoek 7, the roadway connects to Molendijk
