Moerdijk Waterfront Development

Making the village harbor more inviting.

What's coming up?

Near the village of Moerdijk lies a harbor that is currently used primarily for commercial shipping. The area currently has a rather unattractive appearance. As part of the Moerdijk MeerMogelijk area development project, the plan is to redevelop the Waterfront and make it more appealing. The plans were developed through a collaboration between the municipality and a working group consisting of local residents, fishing companies, representatives of the commercial shipping industry, berth holders, and other interested Moerdijk residents. It comprises four different subprojects:

Relocation of the truck parking lot (removing the trucks from the port area by moving the parking lot to a strip of land across from the existing industrial park).
Dike Body Improvements (addition of an extra set of dike stairs, a walking path along the dike crest between the two sets of stairs, and a wheelchair-accessible ramp to bring the village and the harbor area closer together).
Harbor redevelopment (replacement of all harbor fixtures and docks, the addition of a small-scale area for recreational boating, and improvements to the surrounding outdoor space).
Development of the west side (conversion of six hectares of commercial land into green space/recreational areas, residential housing, and hospitality facilities)

What is the latest update?

Between April 2026 and the end of June 2026, utility work was carried out at the harbor. As part of this work, electrical and water connections were rerouted and expanded in preparation for the renovation of the village harbor.
The exact start date for the port renovation project has not yet been determined.
The development plan for the western section calls for 30 residential units and 1 building lot. The zoning plan became final in April 2023. The plan is for residential construction to take place after the harbor renovation is completed. Pending a decision on Powerport, it remains uncertain whether this part of the project will ultimately be carried out.
