Large-scale inspection of bridges, culverts, and engineering structures 

Throughout the municipality of Moerdijk, inspectors will be out and about in the coming weeks to inspect and document bridges, culverts, and other structures near bodies of water. Engineering structures will also be inspected. This will take place between mid-March and the end of May. It is a mandatory inspection that the municipality conducts regularly to ensure that everything remains safe, functional, and in good condition. 

Between mid-March and the end of May, inspectors from SpectGroep will inspect all culverts—that is, the connecting pipes in ditches and trenches—throughout the municipality. Inspectors from Nebest will examine bridges, tunnels, piers, boardwalks, stairs, and retaining walls. Bureau KD will inspect the engineering structures.  

Safe and functional 

The inspectors check to see if everything is correctly marked on the map and functioning properly. For example, a culvert connecting two ditches must be large enough to accommodate the volume of water flowing through it. The inspectors check for any problems that might indicate the structure is no longer sound. Sometimes they take measurements to verify safety. They also assess whether maintenance is needed, such as painting. 

On foot, by bike, or by ATV 

The inspections take place throughout the municipality, both in the villages and towns and in the outlying areas. The inspectors walk, bike, or ride a quad bike along the waterways and structures and record the information on a tablet.
