What does the Open Government Act entail?
Everyone has the right to information from the government. The Open Government Act (Woo) sets forth which government information is public and how individuals can request it. Government information is public, unless there is a reason why it cannot be disclosed.

Proactive Disclosure
Proactive disclosure means that the municipality itself, on its own initiative, makes information about policies and their implementation publicly available. This is fully in line with the goal of the Woo: to make government information more accessible, transparent, and easier to find.
What information is actively disclosed?
The Woo requires municipalities to actively—that is, on their own initiative—disclose certain public information.
The Woo Index on the Overheid.nl website provides an overview of the information that the municipality has already made public, organized into the information categories prescribed by the Woo. You can find this under the heading “Locations of Woo Documents.”

Is the information you're looking for not yet public? If so, you can submit a Woo request. This means you're asking the municipality to locate this information and make it public.

What happens to my application?
The municipality must make a decision on the request to disclose documents within 4 weeks. The decision may be postponed once for a period of 2 weeks.
