Submitting or Picking Up Foreign Documents
You must register legal events that have occurred abroad in the Basic Register of Persons (BRP). Examples include birth, marriage, divorce, or death.
You can drop off and pick up your documents by appointment only.

Bring along
For your appointment, you will need at least the following:
- A valid form of identification
- The original foreign document
- Always check in advance what rules apply to the country where the document originates. The document may need to be apostilled or legalized. Visit the Dutch government’s website for information on whether and where your document needs to be legalized or apostilled.
- If the document is in a language other than Dutch, English, German, or French: a certified translation.
- In some cases, the municipality may ask you to provide additional documents or statements.
How long does it take?
Processing usually takes a few weeks. If additional investigation is needed, it may take longer.
