Changes to the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP)

Would you like to update your personal information in the Population Register? That is possible. For example, at your request, the municipality can remove historical records related to adoption or a gender change. In other cases, such as registration or deregistration, a name change, and similar situations, the personal data in the BRP is automatically updated.

In writing

You can prepare a written request and send it to the municipality. You can send it to the following address:

You can also mail your request to the mailbox at City Hall, located at the entrance on Pastoor van Kessellaan 15, or drop it off at the service counters.

Bring along

  • Passport, ID card, or driver's license as proof of identity.
  • Proof that the information is correct.

Change Due to Adoption

Upon written request from the adoptive parents of a child under the age of 16 or an adopted child who is 16 years of age or older, data relating to the adoption may be deleted.
The data that may be modified or deleted pertains to:

  • the name
  • the mother or the father
  • the nationality lost upon adoption
  • the municipality of registration and the address in that municipality, as well as information regarding residence in the Netherlands and departure from the Netherlands.

Change Resulting from a Gender Transition

In addition, upon written request from the individual concerned, the municipal government may delete or amend the data as a result of a gender change. This does not require that an actual “physical transition” have taken place. The condition is that a statement be submitted by an expert designated by the CIBG.

The data that can be modified or deleted are:

  • information about the name
  • gender data
  • information regarding the use of the surname of the spouse, former spouse, registered partner, or former registered partner
