Blue Zone (Residents)
A blue zone is an area where drivers are allowed to park for a maximum amount of time. Parking is only permitted in parking spaces marked with a blue line. You must use a parking ticket to indicate the time you began parking at that location. The parking time begins at that moment. The maximum parking time may vary by location. Therefore, pay close attention to the signs indicating that a blue zone applies in a particular area. These signs also specify the maximum number of hours you are allowed to park there.
Loading and unloading is not the same as parking. Therefore, no exemption is required for loading and unloading, even if these activities take longer than indicated on the signs.
In which areas is a blue zone in effect?
Blue zones have been designated in Zevenbergen, Klundert, and Willemstad. You can recognize these areas by the “Blue Zone” signs and the blue stripes marking the parking spaces.
The rules vary by blue zone. Basically, the rules are as follows:
- You live in the blue zone where you are applying for a permit and are officially registered with the municipality at that address;
- The vehicle for which you are applying for the permit is registered in your name;
- Do you have a leased or company car? If so, the following documents are required:
- A copy of the lease agreement that includes your name
- A so-called owner's statement in which the company declares that the vehicle has been made available exclusively to you.
In Zevenbergen, applicants must not have the option to park on their own property. Only one exemption is granted per address. If you own multiple vehicles, you must decide which one is the most important for an exemption. In Willemstad, there is no limit on the number of exemptions per residence. Additionally, there are no rules regarding parking on private property here. Therefore, you can apply for multiple exemptions per address. In Klundert, no exemptions may be requested. Decisions regarding such differences in blue zone regulations are made, for example, based on the type of traffic that comes to the location. For instance, Willemstad is more of a tourist destination than Zevenbergen, while Zevenbergen primarily attracts visitors for shopping. These are some of the factors taken into account when determining blue zone regulations in a given area.
You can apply for an exemption at the reception desk in City Hall or through our website. Be sure to specify which exemption you are applying for and for which area. You can find more information on the following pages:
If your application is approved, you will receive an exemption letter and a pass. The pass shows your license plate number and the area where the exemption is valid. You must place the pass in a clearly visible spot behind the windshield while parked. You must keep the exemption letter in a safe place, but it does not need to be in the car. This is because the letter is the actual exemption, while the permit serves as proof that you have an exemption. By displaying the permit clearly, enforcement officers won’t make a mistake, and you’ll avoid receiving an unjustified ticket. Of course, you can contest an unjustified ticket, but that takes a lot of time and effort. That would be a shame.
With your permit, you may park (without a time limit) in the parking spaces within the blue zone listed on your permit. Long-term parking is only allowed in lanes marked with a blue line. Parking outside of the designated spaces or in lanes without blue markings is not permitted. You may still be issued a parking ticket for doing so.
This depends on the blue zone. In the blue zone of Zevenbergen, this is not permitted. In the blue zone of Willemstad, there is no limit on the number of resident parking permits. Therefore, you can apply for multiple permits per address there. This difference is due to the number of visitors to the area, the nature of the visits, other regulations (the fortress closure order), and the number of available parking spaces relative to the number of homes in the area. Furthermore, in Willemstad, it has been stated from the outset that there will be more permits issued than there are available parking spaces, and therefore a parking space is not guaranteed.
You must report any changes in your personal circumstances that affect your permit to the municipality of Moerdijk. If you move to a residence outside the blue zone, the exemption will be revoked. If you continue to live within the blue zone, you may keep the exemption. PLEASE NOTE:Several times a year, we check through the RDW (in accordance with privacy laws) whether the vehicle covered by the exemption is still registered to an address within the blue zone. If this is not the case, we will revoke the exemption, and you run the risk of receiving a ticket if you park in the blue zone anyway.
You must report any changes in your personal circumstances that affect your permit to the municipality of Moerdijk. Do you have a new car and would you like an exemption for the blue zone? In that case, the exemption for your old vehicle will expire. If you keep both vehicles, you can, of course, choose which vehicle you’d like the exemption for. However, you must then park the other vehicle outside the blue zone, for example at the Kasteeltuin in Zevenbergen or in the parking lots around the harbor in Willemstad (outside the fortifications). PLEASE NOTE:Several times a year, we check through the RDW (in accordance with privacy laws) whether the vehicle with the exemption is still registered at the address within the blue zone. If this is not the case, we will terminate the exemption, and you run the risk of receiving a ticket if you park in the blue zone anyway.
Residents within the blue zone in Willemstad receive 25 visitor parking permits each year. With this permit, a visitor can park in Willemstad’s blue zone for an entire day. Visitors to residents within the blue zone in Zevenbergen can park in one of the long-term parking lots outside the blue zone, such as the Kasteeltuin.
We do not grant exemptions for temporary (rental) cars. In that case, you can, for example, park your car in a long-term parking lot outside the blue zone. If you live in the blue zone of Willemstad and still have visitor parking permits, you can also use them for your temporary vehicle.
