Neighborhood Mediation
In a densely populated country like the Netherlands, conflicts between neighbors occur regularly. Issues such as noise pollution, children playing, and pets can cause irritation. Fortunately, most neighbors are able to work things out together. Sometimes, however, this isn’t possible. In these cases, neighborhood mediation can offer a solution.
What is neighborhood mediation?
Suppose you’re having a dispute with your neighbor. You want to resolve the conflict, but you can’t work it out on your own. In that case, you can turn to neighborhood mediation. Neighborhood mediators are trained volunteers who remain neutral. They first listen carefully to both sides’ accounts separately and then facilitate a joint discussion. Neighborhood mediation helps people reconnect and work together to come up with different solutions. Ultimately, specific solutions are chosen jointly, after which clear agreements are made that both parties must adhere to. Because the parties themselves propose the solutions, there is a much greater chance that the problem will be truly resolved.
Who is it intended for?
Neighborhood mediation is intended for all residents of the municipality of Moerdijk who are in a conflict with a neighbor or are at risk of entering into one. It is voluntary, but not without obligation. You must contribute ideas toward a possible solution and cooperate in finding one.
Neighborhood mediation is free of charge.
