Two potential sites remain for the Moerdijk high- and medium-voltage substation; you may submit your comments 

Several energy projects are in the planning stages in the Moerdijk region. One of these projects is the construction of a new high- and medium-voltage substation in the vicinity of the Moerdijk port and industrial area. Two locations are still under consideration for this project. The plan will be available for public review from May 8 through June 18, 2026. You are invited to submit your comments.

 
TenneT plans to build a new 380/150 kV high-voltage substation near the Moerdijk port and industrial area. Enexis Netbeheer also plans to build a 20 kV medium-voltage substation. A single shared location is being sought for the three substations. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) has initiated a land-use planning procedure for these three substations and is coordinating the process.  

Possible locations: Gorsdijk and Krukweg  

Several locations were evaluated for the new high- and medium-voltage substation. The State Secretary for Climate and Green Growth (KGG) has now narrowed the selection down to two remaining locations: Gorsdijk and Krukweg (North and South). This is described in the document titled “Draft Preferred Alternative” (hereinafter: Draft PAA). This is not yet a final decision. You can now submit your comments on this matter.  

Information Sessionon June 4 in Zevenbergen 

The ministry, in collaboration with TenneT and Enexis, is organizing a drop-in meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Hotel de Borgh in Zevenbergen. You are welcome to attend between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. or between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. During the meeting, you can learn about the plans and ask questions of staff members from the organizations involved.  

During this meeting, you can also learn more about other energy projects in the region. In particular, the VAWOZ program, through which the ministry is investigating how to bring offshore wind energy ashore. This involves various locations throughout the Netherlands. In North Brabant, Moerdijk (near the port and industrial area) is one location where electricity can be brought ashore. This landfall project also involves the construction of a converter station. The location of the landfall depends, among other factors, on the construction of the new high- and medium-voltage substation, because the electricity must be connected to this new substation.

What happens next?  

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) collects and responds to the submitted comments and opinions. In addition, an administrative consultation for the Moerdijk Powerport region will take place in late June 2026, during which the national government and the region will decide on the direction of the expansion of the port and industrial area. The State Secretary for Infrastructure and the Environment will also take the outcomes of the Administrative Consultation on the Moerdijk Powerport region regarding the development direction of the port and industrial area into account in the final decision on the location of the high- and medium-voltage substation.
