Proof of Dutch Citizenship
Sometimes, for a particular profession, you need proof of Dutch citizenship. This is a statement from the municipality confirming that you have Dutch citizenship.
Terms and Conditions
You can obtain this extract only from the municipality where you are registered.
To obtain a certificate of Dutch citizenship, you must:
- Be a Dutch citizen;
- Be registered with the municipality.
Who can apply for proof of Dutch citizenship:
- Yourself;
- Parents, guardians, or caregivers of minors under the age of 16;
- Guardians, for individuals under guardianship;
- Someone who has authorized you.
What information is included on the statement?
A certificate of Dutch citizenship is a statement issued by the mayor confirming your Dutch citizenship. The certificate lists your name, address, place of residence, and citizenship. You can use it to prove your Dutch citizenship. This can be useful if a passport is not sufficient as official proof.
When do you need it?
You may be asked to provide proof of Dutch citizenship if you move abroad or if you wish to be eligible for certain professions (such as positions in public administration).
Not registered in the Netherlands?
If you are not registered in the Netherlands, you can apply for a Certificate of Dutch Citizenship at the Dutch embassy or consulate in the country where you live.
