June 24, 2026 | Question Time at Nieuwspoort
One day before the debate in the House of Representatives on Moerdijk, residents from Moerdijk, the surrounding rural areas, Zevenbergschen Hoek, Klundert, and Langeweg were already in The Hague. Also present were ZLTO, BAJK, a broad representation of the city council, and the mayor. These parties had previously sent a joint letter to the House of Representatives. At the Nieuwspoort press center, members of the House and the media could obtain information, allowing them to begin the debate well-prepared. There was also time to ask questions.

April 7, 2026 | Letter from TenneT and Enexis regarding the location of a new high-voltage substation
On April 2, the municipal executive received a letter from TenneT and Enexis. In the letter, both parties emphasize the urgency of selecting a site for the 380 kV high-voltage substation in Moerdijk. To ensure the substation is built as quickly as possible, they advocate for locating it at the Krukweg site.The municipal executive responded to the letter immediately.
March 5, 2026 | Roundtable Discussion in the House of Representatives

January 6, 2026 | Regulation on Incurred but Unrecoverable Costs
At the end of 2025, it became apparent that some residents of Moerdijk had incurred expenses they would not have incurred had they known earlier about the Powerport news from November 11, 2025. To address this situation, the municipality of Moerdijk has now established a compensation program, which the municipal executive adopted on January 6, 2026. The municipality aims to compensate residents through this program. The compensation is capped at €5,000 per household.

November 19, 2025 | Council Meeting (decision-making)
The Moerdijk City Council has approved the municipality’s contribution to the consultations on the national Powerport initiative, with a few additions. With two amendments adopted in addition to the council’s proposal, the City Council assigned the following tasks to the municipal executive:
- Ensure that Powerport does not lead to an increase in noise, environmental impacts, or traffic congestion in the surrounding areas of Zevenbergen, Klundert, Zevenbergschen Hoek, and Langeweg.
- Agree that the intended profile for the port and industrial area will focus exclusively on activities that benefit the circular economy and contribute to sustainability and the energy transition.
In a resolution, the council endorsed the executive board’s desire to provide full compensation. In addition, the resolution calls for a social analysis of quality of life and for measures to enable residents to relocate collectively to other areas within the municipality.The public had the opportunity to speak; watch the public comment sessionhere.Watch a replay of the council meeting.

November 11, 2025 | Call from the Municipality of Moerdijk: Give First, Then Take
“Central government and province: be clear, ensure fair compensation, and establish a regional fund that invests in quality of life”—that is the call the municipal executive presented to the council in the context of the national Powerport initiative. On December 1, 2025, the national government, the province, and the municipality of Moerdijk intended to make a major decision regarding the direction of the expansion of the Moerdijk port and industrial area, the associated preconditions, and the matters that require further elaboration. In preparation for this, the municipal executive had the city council adopt Moerdijk’s input regarding this decision.

The agenda included the council proposal to restore indexation under the Moerdijk Scheme. The council voted unanimously to adopt the proposal.
October 2025 | Letter to Minister Rijkaart
The council sent a letter to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations following the committee debate on “Strengthening Local Government” on September 10, 2025, and the minister’s commitment to place the specific issues facing Moerdijk on the agenda in consultation with his colleagues.

The agenda included the council proposal to establish a municipal right of first refusal in connection with Powerport. The council voted 17 in favor and 4 against to adopt the proposal.
July 2025 | Right of First Refusal on Search Area
On July 1 , the municipality of Moerdijk established a municipal right of first refusal on a large portion of the land in the search area for Powerport Moerdijk. This means that the municipality has the first right to purchase if an owner wishes to sell land in the area.

January 2025 | High-level government delegation visits Moerdijk
Following an invitation from the municipality of Moerdijk (see “September 2024” on this timeline), a high-level cabinet delegation visited the municipality of Moerdijk on January 30, 2025: the ministers of VRO (Mona Keijzer), Public Works and Management (Sophie Hermans), and Infrastructure and Water Management (Barry Madlener), as well as the State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management (Chris Jansen). Alderman Danny Dingemans made an urgent appeal to the ministers.

September 2024 | Municipality's Response to the Preliminary Draft of the Spatial Planning Memorandum
In June 2024, the national government published the preliminary draft of the Spatial Planning Memorandum. The preliminary draft is an initial spatial interpretation of the challenges facing the Netherlands as it moves toward 2050, with a look ahead to 2100. The preliminary draft is an intermediate step toward the final Spatial Planning Memorandum. The Moerdijk municipal council shared its conclusions regarding the preliminary draft with Minister Keijzer of Housing and Spatial Planning. The council invited Minister Keijzer and her colleagues Hermans (Climate and Green Growth) and Madlener (Infrastructure and Water Management) for a working visit.

September 2023 | Refined Positioning
The municipal executive adopted a refined mission statement to serve as a guiding principle for the municipality’s actions in ongoing projects and processes. This statement placed an even greater emphasis on the municipality’s role as the guardian of quality of life and a future-proof vision for our local community.

March 2023 | Initial Position Statement from the Municipality and Council Information Letter
In the spring of 2023, there were 12 projects underway in the municipality of Moerdijk related to energy issues and other national initiatives that placed demands on available space. To ensure the municipality could effectively articulate its position in discussions about these projects, the municipal executive adopted an initial position statement and informed the municipal council of it.
