New Combined 380/150/20 kV Substation at the Port of Moerdijk

What's coming up?

TenneT plans to build a new 380 kV high-voltage substation and a new 150 kV high-voltage substation in the vicinity of the Moerdijk port and industrial area. As part of the project, a location is also being sought for a 20 kV medium-voltage substation operated by Enexis. The combined substation is scheduled to become operational between 2031 and 2033.

Due to spatial and technical considerations, it is preferable to combine these stations at a single location or in close proximity to one another. The combined station is necessary to enable the industry in and around Moerdijk to become more sustainable and to reduce CO2 emissions, with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. It also creates a potential new connection point for feeding offshore wind energy into the power grid. The Ministry of Climate and Green Growth (KGG) has therefore initiated a spatial planning procedure.

To illustrate, here is a photo of the current 380-150 kV high-voltage substation in Diemen. This high-voltage substation has less capacity and also lacks a 20 kV medium-voltage substation. As a result, this substation covers a smaller area of approximately 16 ha.

What is the latest update?

On May 8, 2026, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy published the draft preferred alternative (draft VKA). It states that there are still two possible locations for the station: Gorsdijk and Krukweg (North and South). From May 8 through July 10, 2026, you could submit your comments via email, mail, or phone. See also the RVO website. The Moerdijk municipality’s statement can be found at the bottom of this page under the heading “Comments from the Moerdijk Municipality.”

Where is this location?

At this time, there are still two locations remaining as potential sites for the 380/150/20 kV substations:

  • Gorsdijk – Moerdijk (also known locally as the Roode Vaart Reserve)
  • Krukweg – Moerdijk (between Roode Vaart and LPM)
